Really I did!
Well, just to clarify - a friend and I visited an enormous statue of Jesus on Cape Fatucama, about a 5 min drive from Dili. The sensational views of the coastline were worth each of the 347 steps it took to get from the base to the top. ‘Cristo Rei’, as it is called locally, was built by the Indonesians to proclaim their support for the Catholic Church, but its height - 27 metres - was a bitter reference to Timor-Leste’s status (until 1999) as Indonesia’s 27th province.
View from (almost!) the top ...

Beautiful beach nearby ...

About 2/3 of the way up the hill .... the white enclosure houses the last Station of the Cross (the other stations are at various points up the hill) -- to learn more about the Stations, check out

We received a warm welcome from Jesus ....

Because the brilliant sun was so hot, we did not visit for too long ...

So for those of you who are coming to visit me in Dili, now you know you can visit Jesus too!
