On Monday, we travelled about an hour from Banda Aceh to visit a village preschool where an early childhood development program is being run:

On Tuesday, I visited an acquaintance that recently had a lovely baby girl and on Wednesday, I attended the opening of a local neighbourhood library; I also unfortunately discovered some local food that did not agree with me :-( On Thursday I learned that I have a pet gecko living in the air conditioner in my room however he is camera shy so I don’t have any photos of him – yet!
On Friday I went to the Plan Aceh Program Unit office, which happens to be just around the corner from where I am living. My Bahasa Indonesian is still very basic but I focused last week on learning things like the days of the week, and I have decided to read some of the children’s books that Plan Aceh has published to increase my vocabulary.
Over the weekend, I visited a place called Sabang which is the northern and western most point of the Indonesian archipelago - well actually, Sabang is the name of a town on Weh Island (Pulau Weh) which is north of Banda Aceh (the names Sabang and Pulau Weh are often used interchangeably). On the island I stayed at a cottage on the beach in Gapang and enjoyed snorkelling (beautiful coral, colourful fish, even some sea turtles), water colour painting and generally just communing with nature :-) I also took many photographs…here’s just a few:

Hope spring has arrived where you are (at least in UK and Canada that is!)...
Sounds wonderful Susan, snorkling, communing with nature ... Are the children playing football on the streets there?
